When trouble hits close to me, I stay calm. Someone must be the lighthouse when the waves crash up against their lives. First, I know they are capable and don’t offer advice unless asked. Next, if asked for resources or ideas, I will give what I have, as we hunt for the “10 Elegant Solutions.”     

Then, I ask them for what they need and break it down into do-able components. We may seek expert opinions, access community resources, or find doggie daycare. They will ask for what they need, and I listen.

Dr. Dan Siegel talks about The Power of Showing Up (2021). A short text or thought, consistently, to let them know they are not forgotten can make a big difference. They are not alone and neither am I.
