A kind word to
one in trouble is often like a switch in a railroad track. . .an inch between
wreck and smooth sailing. – Henry Ward Beecher
(1813-1887)
I’ve updated the name of this blog to Family Dynamics A – Z because I’m gathering our posts for a book under my pen name of Diana Dissette.
My mother and aunt had antique tapestries (3’x5’) depicting a family in the late 1700’s. When they died, I got to choose which tapestry came into my home. My aunt’s had the mother, young girl, and grandmother sitting on a sofa, father and older brother standing behind, composed and dignified.
I chose my mom’s tapestry and laugh every day as I go upstairs to my office to write: the foot stool is knocked over, the carpet is skidded into a ruffle, the young girl is running into the room holding up a puppy in her arms. Parents, grandmother, and older brother are rushing to meet the new dog and greet the girl. Welcome to my world.
I choose the life I live and when it doesn’t work, I re-choose it without getting stuck. I connect with my trustworthy friends, evaluate input, and make the most effective decision I can.
The back of the tapestry is a mess. The front is a piece of art. I don’t hide my messy parts; they are a part of me. I make sure the front is turned over when I function professionally in my careers or in my community.
Aloha love,
Diana
