DaVinci said, “A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things

in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.” He used a Light-Dark technique to

give the illusion of 3-dimensional volume, on a flat surface, by using strong contrasts

between light and shadow.

 

DaVinci blended edges and created the smoky technique by layering dark glazes over

lighter colors as seen in the Mona Lisa. He reminded us we each have the power to define

reality by choosing how and where to bring the light.

 

Where and when did I bring the light? The sheriff closed the schools for one day because of high

winds. Winds tore the roof off an elementary school in our region within the last 30 days. We all 

felt safer sheltering in place.

 

I blend the edges of my life and know when things appear dark, my task is to add the light,

even if it looks smoky for a while . . .
