A kind word to one in trouble is often like a switch in a railroad track . . . an inch between wreck and smooth sailing. – Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887)
Lou Holtz, Notre Dame and NFL Jets football coach, said: “It’s not the load that breaks you down; it’s how you carry it.” I had two days off from work and rather than running around like a whirling-dervish, I had a day of silence while I read a book and rested. The next day, I watched WWII and mystery movies, then rested.
I have four Zoom classes per week which I completed on other days, then rested. I didn’t do this in my 30’s or 40’s. What I’m structuring now is a sustainable lifestyle for the next 20 years which will allow me to indie-publish 2 WWII Holocaust Historical fiction books per year.
My equine-therapy coach reminds us to treat ourselves like a horse and listen to our bodies. Practice calm and use calm-skills when life overwhelms. (Not relaxation! Those have a different focus!)
Calm amidst the storm; be the mountain. Calm in the face of fear. Practice breathing. Calm is how you carry the load . . .
Aloha love,
Carla
