A kind word to one in trouble is often like a
switch in a railroad track . . . an inch between wreck and smooth sailing. – Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887)
Robert Louis Stevenson said, “During a storm, a clock keeps on ticking.” When faced with a betrayal this year, my heart broke. My Inner-Child (I-C) was devastated; we didn’t see it coming. My dialogue with the I-C did three things:
b)
Validate: “Makes perfect sense to me. Feels like
home, doesn’t it, where you didn’t matter?
c)
Love: I love you just the way you are.”
Seen and heard. Validated. Loved. It took about four days to manage. Some people walk, sculpt, watch movies, journal, paint, cook, garden, ride horses, swim, ski, and dance. There are a myriad of ways to manage pain. I went to work, did my chores, and kept a routine. Strength of habit often brings me through painful feelings if I don’t stuff or deny them.
My Nurturing Inner-Parent (N-P) listed gratitude for the situation being brought to light. I processed it, talked to my sounding-board people, and put it into the past. I made a note to be cautious with my trust in the future. Ugh! I don’t want things layin-in-the-weeds. Even though it hurt, I was glad to put the matter to rest without the scorched-earth behavior of my past.
Aloha love,
