We live our lives in many layers. The tempo at which we do so builds strength and stamina into our minds, bodies, families, careers, and communities. I want to noodle on that for a while. I need more information. That won’t work for me. These are several of the phrases I often use when negotiating life. The thoughts give me time to breathe. To think. To regroup. To strategize and mobilize. To rest. To keep the tempo manageable and out of overwhelm.

I watch athletic teams and listen to their coaches talk about individual pacing and the tempo of the team. The playoffs will come. They will be in them. Or not. When we start a business, it is a 5-year plan to build momentum in marketing. Or not.

15 minutes a day of active-listening and focused attention with anyone in our families, with our friends, or in other important relationships will keep the relationship on track. It sounded wrong to me. Isn’t it hours or days? 15 minutes? Really? Yeppers, it’s true. Try it for 30 days. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
