 My friends listen to me when I’m happy. When I’m hurt, they ask questions and make statements like: What’s upsetting you? Please tell me more. Well, that’s frustrating. What do you want to do about it? So, you’re upset about this and you want to handle it like this. (Mirroring back what they heard - did I explain it accurately?).

No judgement. No bossy-I-told-you-so’s. Just compassion, trusting myself to handle my life. Sometimes I’m faced with the Best-Worst-Choice. Other times, there are 10 Elegant Solutions to Every Problem and my friends help me think of all ten.

 We rank each one on a scale of 1-10 and eliminate the ones that are least effective. I am then clear-headed enough to act and if it does not work, I re-choose it and do not get stuck in emotional-sludge.
