The great virtue in life is real courage that knows how to face facts and live beyond them.
–D. H. Lawrence (1885 – 1930)
In Denver in the early 1950’s, middle-class homes had black and white televisions. Back east, some had color. We did not.
I was
enthralled with cartoons, a favorite afternoon club of school children, and of
course horses on any show. Made my day! I never thought in terms of watching in
color, I lived in color. Times were different then with no cell phones,
internet, or other digital wonders.
We had
root-beer floats and bacon-cheese burgers on Saturday afternoons. What a
difference now not being isolated by my neighborhood, as I was then. I have
friends on video-conferencing, who show up in color, and connections with
people I never would have met without digital literacy. Everything I watch is in living color
these days. I put them and technology on my gratitude lists.
Aloha love,
Carla
