A kind word to one in trouble is
often like a switch in a railroad track. . .an inch between wreck and smooth
sailing – Henry Ward Beecher
(1813-1887)
It’s OK for us to poke fun and laugh at ourselves
collectively. We can relate to others through our creativity and teenagers
understand this. Not all laughter is malicious or unkind; it’s not
hurt-for-hurting. Homecoming Week at all of my high schools near Glacier
Park, Montana, USA have a spirit week with colors, themes, and styles for each
day. It’s just plain fun and one of my favorites is Tacky- Tourist Day.
Yes, substitutes dress in costume also! Everyone is snapping pictures for the
yearbook, social media, and you can hear the laughter up and down the halls. It’s
a good way to blow off steam.
We’re a resort destination so we don’t have to make up these
costumes, they’re the real deal: mis-matched sox; weird sandals and flip-flops;
curious hats stuck with strange objects; necks strung with binoculars and
cameras; neon lunch bags with shoulder straps clash with shirts and shorts
whose patterns defy reason; and forget style in sunglasses. (Quit laughing - -
it’s true!)
Aloha love,
Carla
