"WHISPERS OF DIMINISHMENT"

Now what?
Some people in my life were part of the “whispers of diminishment” campaign:
“You’ll never write anything.” “People don’t make a living by writing.” This is
hilarious to me in hindsight. This person subscribed to magazines,
bought books, and read newspapers. These things weren’t written by ghosts. I
chose to be unavailable to those individuals, often. It’s hard when they are
family members; nevertheless, they are not going to recalibrate my retirement.
I am. I keep the “end in mind” every day. I breathe, then proceed to get to
work.
One of my
teachers suggested I log my time and commit to a 21-day plan to
restructure my writing time. With Chris Fox (2015) Lifelong Writing Habit: The
Secret to Writing Every Day (www.chrisfoxwrites.com), I have done 21-days many times and
find new growth each time. Gratitude to Chris Fox.
Aloha love,
Carla

Manageable increments. 21 days is a doable period of time. What a timely reminder. Thank you, Carla.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how this story will end. . . I do know that when I do the next right thing, each day unfolds. I promised myself I would do two things: Make a plan. Don't quit. Appreciate your encouragement.
DeleteEnergy confetti - my personal nemesis and daily challenge. A specified block of time to restructure and re-focus, reflect and re-direct if necessary is a powerful tool. It is astounding in hindsight to realize how often those "whispers of diminishment" creep in - from external sources as well as the voice of our own inner wounded child. The simple act of doing the next right thing, and then the next, truly does unfold each day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this loving, timely reminder!
You are so very welcome. Appreciate the encouragement - nice to meet a fellow traveler along the road. Indie-publishing children's picture books (target summer 2023) can seem overwhelming to the Inner Child. I tell her often, "I got this," with my hand over my heart to engage the vagus nerve. Then, I let her play with the kittens instead of demanding my typical Type A "get-the-work-done" attitude.
