It took a lot of ingenuity from teachers and
tech support staff to resolve issues for students struggling with at-home
learning due to COVID-19 restrictions. In particular, math, physics, and chemistry
formulas were tricky. One creative teacher taught remotely on the smartboard
for only half of the class time.
Remote students logged onto Google classroom. The remote teacher was able to view the entire class from a laptop on the teacher's desk in the classroom: “Michael,
put your cell phone away.”
As a guest
teacher, I logged onto another Chromebook, sat at a separate desk, and took
attendance.
A third Chromebook was set up on yet another desk, with a document camera. During the last half of the class, students placed their written formulas under the document camera and were able to have one-to-one face time (of three or four minutes) with their teacher. Another afternoon was also available for this type of academic support. What a difference it made for physics, chemistry, and math formulas! Mistakes could be resolved quickly with this visual support.
Aloha love,
Carla
