Say the numbers out loud, slowly. Breathe. Counting backwards calms the nerves before I engage in any activity. “What you permit you promote.” “What you hide you keep.” I begin with a self-check before I go on Zoom, or find myself using digital communications. No psycho-texting, emails, or social media! Breathe. 99, 98, 97 . . . Breathe. I am careful to not hide what’s really going on with me. I practice this when working with students as well.

Agreed. Mindfulness and breath is a great way to start. (My experience is that whether I say numbers out loud, hear them in my "mind's ear", or picture them within myself, they can be equally effective.
ReplyDeleteI'd guess maybe some people experience one or another as the best for them! : )
Appreciate your response. Staying in the moment is so important! What works in one hour or day will not necessarily be effective when the dynamics change. :)
